Champagne, Syrah and Coca-Cola: Early 20th Century Riots and the Winemaking Process

Location: Ellensburg
14700 State Route 821, Ellensburg, WA 98926-4125, United States

Hosted by 509 Club at Canyon River Ranch, 4 5 pm - A lover of history and wine, Marji Morgan weaves together these two interests in an exploration of riots and their relation to winemaking and the wine appellation system. On the eve of World War I, Champagne was one of the most explosive places in Europe. The Champagne Riots were so violent, the central government had to send in 40,000 troops. Morgan uses these riots as a lens through which to explore winemaking, the origins of the appellation system, and ways in which Champagne is more like Coco-Cola than fine Syrah. Enjoy tasting several Champagne and Syrah wines as you listen to the talk. For more information please call  509.933.2100.
